Chimera has been part of PlatteCon since PlatteCon was still a new thing! Chimera will come in offering a selection of games and the tools used to play games.

Comic World From Dubuque Iowa
This will be Comic world’s second year with PlatteCon! Being close to Platteville it is a great shop to check out. Comic world will have a variety of games and don’t forget some Magic the Gathering.

Anime Klub
This is the First year Anime Klub is coming into PlatteCon. They will be offering the snacks and anime based goods that some of us look forward to getting each year.

Dork Nerd Geek- Podcast

Dork Nerd Geek is a podcast that has graced us with their presence for multiple years! You can check out their previous pod casts at http://www.dorknerdgeek.com/. They talk about everything from Feral Cats to the games we know and love. :) They often host events that everyone no matter how young or old can be a part of. If you are lucky you may be able to catch a game with them during the day. They are always a bunch of fun.

Mitchell Meerman – Avalanche World Record Holder

Mitchell is the current holder of Avalanche World record and he is still in College. He knows the ins and outs of what it takes to document it properly and some ways the industry has truly changed. He will be there to play games and have a few sessions talking about arcade and video games.

Terry Pavlet- Graphic Artist
Terry Pavlet is an award winning RPG/CCG/Comic Book Illustrator who has done work for White Wolf, Wizards of the Coast, Fantasy Flight Games, and many others… comic work for DC, Image, Disney … Sketch cards for Unstoppable Cards UK (RPG Fantasy), Cult Stuff Cards (War of the Worlds) … book publishers for Ballentine Books, Baen Books, and Transfuzion Publishing (Deadworld Sourcebook). Designing and illustrating MOTU & TNMT action figures for Astonishing Toys. T-Shirt licensing properties for Warner Brothers (Looney Tunes), Lucasfilms (Star Wars), Hanna Barbera (Flintstones, etc.) and many more.

Looking for a place to stay?

Block booking has been arranged for Country Inn & Suites, Mound View Inn and for Super 8 Motel. All of these places are in Platteville and have great workers that can help direct you, so you should have no trouble getting to the convention. They are clean and comfortable and they are offering a discount to PlatteCon XXVI attendees! Just ask about the PlatteCon special rate when you call to make your room reservation.

Reserve your rooms before February 1, 2013 to snag that room! These hotels can only guarantee rooms at the reduced rate until one month before the convention.

Also for the discounted rate we will need 10 rooms reserved in each hotel. Unfortunately, without the 10 rooms the hotel will go back to the regular price. Each hotel can always go over 10 rooms however.

.LAN Gaming Convention – April 26-29, 2012

.LAN is a large LAN party that has turned into a small gaming convention. It will be held this weekend, April 26-29, 2012, in Milwaukee, WI at the Wyndham Milwaukee Airport Hotel & Convention Center. Check the .LAN website for more convention information.

Odyssey Con – April 20-22, 2012

Odyssey Con Odyssey Con is comming up soon in Madison, WI, April 20-22, 2012. This general interest science fictions convention has lots of events to fill the weekend with fun.

Special guests include science fictions authors Larry Niven and Steven Barnes, as well as game designer Kenneth Hite. Please take a look at the Odyssey Con website for more information about registration, lodging, and activites!

PlatteCon XXVI – March 1-3, 2013!

The dates for PlatteCon XXVI are in! The convention will be held March 1-3, 2013 on the UW-Platteville campus in Platteville, WI. We will again be holding the convention in Ullsvik Hall in both the Velzy Commons convention hall and in the Nohr Gallery facilities.

This year’s theme: Yarr of the Pirates!

We are currently accepting entries for the PlatteCon XXVI poster. The poster must include the theme, dates, and location of the convention. The entries will be judged at the annual Platteville Gaming Association (PGA) spring picnic on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Memorial Park on the UW-Platteville campus. A rain site will be posted on the PGA Forums. Please email entries to plattecon,convention,master(at)gmail,com before the picnic, or bring your entry to the picnic in person.

Post-Convention Feedback

PlatteCon 25 was a great convention, and we owe a huge thanks to all of out attendees, volunteers, club officers, and building staff! Thank you so much, everyone! We’re collecting feedback about the convention now and we’d be happy to hear from you. There are a number of ways that you can contact us with comments and suggestions:

  • Join our forums and post your comments in our PlatteCon section.
  • Email your comments to plattecon,convention,master(at)gmail,com.
  • Tell us your thoughts on our facebook page.
  • Write us a letter and mail it to: Platteville Gaming Association, 1 University Plaza, Platteville, WI 53818.

Photo Contest Rules

  • Only pictures from PlatteCon XXV that are received by March, 23, 2012 will be accepted into the contest.
  • Along with your pictures you are required to send an email and mailing address.
  • Pictures will be accepted through email and postal carrier.
  • Pictures will be judged by a panel of several PlatteCon Staff members, and a decision will be made by March 31, 2012.
  • Prizes will be mailed to the winners after the contest has been decided.
  • Even if you miss the deadline, or have pictures from previous years, we would greatly appreciate copies of said pictures for use on our website, future advertisement, and for the great memories!

Well, everyone, PlatteCon 25 is this weekend! We’re excited about all of the events that we’ve got this year, and we’re really looking forward to seeing you there. We have a great vendor line-up and some really talented artists. On top of that, you’ll find plenty of games, activities, and anime to keep you busy all weekend long!

Special guest Dork Nerd Geek and Freak of the Week podcast is returning for their second year at PlatteCon, and they’re bringing another great program of games and interviews for you. There are Magic tournaments throughout the weekend, foam sword and shield events, video games and anime running all weekend, and lots of games!

Don’t forget about the door prizes and contests — everyone who buys admission to PlatteCon 25 can enter to win door prizes and compete in our costume contest and our post-convention photo contest. Grab your cameras, everyone, and get ready for some great gaming!
