History
Started in 1988, PlatteCon was the first gaming convention in Southwest Wisconsin. The members of the Platteville Gaming Association felt a need for a local convention due to the absence of any other conventions in the area. The facilities available at the UW-Platteville campus provided plenty of space for the group to hold the first PlatteCon, and have allowed the Con to continue to grow over the past 20 years. Further, the Con has grown with the University and recently moved into the new and accommodating Pioneer Student Center.
The first PlatteCon set a precedent with its name, PlatteCon Alpha. The organizers wanted a departure from the traditional numbering system for conventions, and opted to follow the Greek alphabet instead.
